Google Password Manager Is Missing Saved Passwords on a New Device: Check Sync and Sign-in

2026年11月4日 by wisechecker

A new device only shows the passwords available through the selected account and supported password-manager configuration. Missing entries can reflect the wrong account, local-only storage on the old device, or a separate passkey recovery requirement.

Confirm the original storage location

On the old device, inspect Google Password Manager and the account associated with the relevant entry. Google’s Chrome guidance distinguishes account-saved passwords from local device storage. Do not assume that signing in to Gmail moved every locally stored credential into your Google Account.

If the old device still has the working entry, preserve it while investigating. Clearing its profile or resetting password-manager data can remove useful recovery options.

Check the new device’s account and provider

Open Password Manager in the intended Chrome profile or Google Account and compare the website and username. On phones, also inspect which password provider is enabled. A password can exist in the account even when another provider supplies the visible autofill suggestions.

Passwords and passkeys have different use and recovery paths. A Google Password Manager PIN prompt concerns encrypted passkey access; it is not necessarily asking for the password of the website you are trying to open.

Verify before migrating or resetting anything

Check a known, non-sensitive entry in the correct storage location. If it exists on the account’s password-management page but not in the device’s autofill menu, investigate the device integration rather than resetting the website password again.

If entries were local-only, use an approved supported transfer method while maintaining control of any plaintext export. Do not send a password CSV through email or upload it to a diagnostic website. Avoid deleting all manager data as a first repair: that can affect passwords or passkeys beyond the single missing entry.
