A Gmail widget on your iPhone can show a different account from the one you last opened in Gmail. Check the widget’s own configuration before removing an account or assuming that messages have disappeared.
Check the account inside the widget
Touch and hold the Home Screen widget, choose Edit Widget, and inspect the selected account. Choose the mailbox you intended to display. The widget’s contents depend on its design and size; it is not a complete view of every folder or every account on the phone.
Open Gmail separately, tap the profile picture, and confirm the full address. Look for a recent message in that account’s inbox. A message visible only in another account or outside the inbox is not a reliable test of the widget.
Separate a widget problem from a mailbox problem
If Gmail itself is not current, pull down in the inbox to refresh it, check the connection, and install any available Gmail update. Compare the same account in its web mailbox. If the message is absent there too, investigate delivery rather than repeatedly rebuilding the widget.
After installing Gmail for the first time, open the app before looking for its widget in the widget gallery. Google’s Home Screen widget instructions require iOS 14 or later. Lock Screen widgets have separate requirements and controls.
Replace only the display if necessary
If the app is current and the selected account is correct, remove the affected widget and add a fresh Gmail widget. Removing a widget does not delete the Gmail app or the server mailbox. Check its account setting again after adding it.
Do not remove the Google Account or reinstall Gmail solely to refresh a Home Screen display. For a persistent issue, record the iOS version, Gmail version, widget size, and whether the same message appears inside the app. Hide private mail content in any screenshot.
