A recipient-inbox-full notice concerns the destination account’s capacity. The sender usually cannot resolve it by cleaning their own Gmail inbox or changing an outgoing password. Confirm the affected recipient and contact them through an approved alternative channel.
Read whether the attempt failed or is delayed
Inspect the delivery notice for the recipient, time, and diagnostic. A temporary deferral can mean the sending system will keep trying; a final failure means you should not assume a pending copy will arrive later.
If the message had several recipients, determine which addresses failed. Do not resend the complete group repeatedly when some people may already have received it.
Ask the recipient to restore capacity
For a Google account, storage can be shared across Gmail, Drive, and Photos, so an apparently small Inbox does not prove available capacity. A work or school account may have an administrator-managed quota.
The recipient should use their official account tools or administrator to review storage and appropriate options. Do not request their password, accept a verification code, or offer to sign in and delete their records.
Coordinate a controlled resend
- Agree on a trusted alternative channel for urgent information.
- Ask the recipient to confirm when their account can receive mail.
- Check whether the original attempt remains in a retry process.
- Send one verified new attempt if a resend is needed.
Freeing capacity does not guarantee that a previously rejected message will be recreated automatically. Storage accounting can also take time after a substantial cleanup, so confirm the actual result with a harmless test.
Avoid splitting a large message into repeated unsolicited deliveries or using unknown file-sharing services to work around an unexplained notice. If an approved shared document is appropriate, verify recipient access and permissions separately.
Keep the bounce until delivery is resolved. A sender-side Sent entry, a recipient-side capacity repair, and successful receipt are three separate facts; document the final one rather than assuming it from either of the first two.
