Gmail’s January 2027 Third-Party Mail Changes: What to Move and What Still Works

2026年10月29日 by wisechecker

As reviewed on October 29, 2026, Google describes January 2027 changes to several third-party mail features in Gmail. These are scheduled support changes, not a statement that every affected function has already stopped for every existing user. Check the official notices again before your migration date.

Identify the affected functions

Google’s Gmailify and POP notice says new users are no longer supported after the first quarter of 2026, while existing users can continue until January 2027. The affected POP feature fetches another provider’s mail into Gmail through Check mail from other accounts.

A separate Send as notice says support for third-party sending addresses starts ending in January 2027. Google explicitly excludes other Gmail addresses you own and Google Workspace aliases from that Send as change.

Keep supported access routes separate

  • Previously synchronized messages remain in Gmail under Google’s stated deprecation guidance.
  • Supported non-Google accounts can still be added directly to the Gmail mobile app.
  • External clients can still connect to Gmail servers with supported POP or IMAP access.
  • The FAQ distinguishes one-time web imports from continuous synchronization.

Do not interpret the change as closure of your other provider’s account or a universal end to every protocol called POP.

Plan a verified replacement

List which old functions you use for receiving, sending, and history. Choose source-provider forwarding, direct supported app access, or an approved organizational migration as appropriate.

Test a harmless new delivery, an outgoing message, and a reply. Preserve source access and required historical records before disconnecting anything. Avoid overlapping routes that create duplicates.

The notices specify the month, not a guaranteed identical cutover moment for every configuration. Do not invent a precise shutdown hour or promise a permanent exception. Other help pages may still describe legacy setup steps; prioritize the explicit current change notices and your provider’s secure supported authentication when planning the transition.
