Forgot Your Google Password? Use the Official Account Recovery Process

2026年10月27日 by wisechecker

If you forgot your Google password, use Google’s account-recovery process for the existing account. Creating another Gmail address will not restore the old account’s mail, files, or purchases.

Start from Google’s own flow

  1. Open Google’s sign-in page and enter the correct account address.
  2. Choose the forgotten-password option, or follow the account-recovery link in Google’s official help.
  3. Use the verification methods Google actually offers.
  4. Answer the questions as accurately as you can.
  5. If recovery succeeds, choose a new strong password you have not used for this account before.

For an account supplied by work or school, the administrator may need to help. A child’s supervised account can also have a parent-managed recovery path.

Improve the evidence available to Google

Use a device, browser, and location you commonly used with the account. If asked for a previous password, enter the most recent one you remember; pay attention to capitalization.

Do not skip every question because you are uncertain. Google’s advice is to provide the best answer you can. Its recovery guide says incorrect guesses do not eject you from the process and there is no general limit on recovery attempts. That does not override a specific hold or instruction shown for your request.

If a recovery method is unavailable

Choose an alternative method only when the flow offers it. You cannot attach a new recovery email from outside the locked account and immediately use it as proof of ownership.

If you recently changed recovery information, the transition may take up to seven days. Follow the displayed instructions instead of repeatedly replacing information on other devices.

Protect the recovered account

After regaining access, review recovery methods and security activity. If the password changed without your permission, treat that as a possible compromise and inspect unfamiliar sessions and settings.

Google says you cannot call it to have a personal account signed in for you, and it does not work with services claiming to provide account or password recovery. Never give a stranger a verification code, backup code, or remote control of your device in exchange for a promised recovery.
