Removing a child’s Google Account from a device is different from deleting the account itself. Choose device removal if the goal is to retire or replace a phone while keeping the child’s online mail, photos, and account. Full account deletion has much wider consequences.
Understand device removal first
Google says removing the account from a device removes associated information and supervision settings from that specific device. The account can remain supervised and signed in on other devices, and can be added to a replacement device.
Check important local information and synchronization before removing anything. Device removal is not a promise that every app’s local data has been erased. A separate factory reset can be appropriate for a permanent device handover, but it is a destructive device operation, not the same thing as removing an account.
Do not confuse a remote reset with account removal
On the child’s Android device, use its account settings, select the correct identity, and follow the authorized Remove account flow. The account-settings label varies by Android version.
Family Link can also offer Reset device & delete data under a signed-in device’s controls. That option resets device data. Do not choose it merely because you want the account to stop appearing on a phone; read its consequences and preserve needed local files first.
Consider account deletion only when intended
The parent-deletion route is limited to eligible accounts the parent created for a child below the applicable age. It removes account content and access to Google services and purchases. Older children or accounts supervised later can require a different process.
Google warns that deleting the account before removing it from a signed-in Android device or Chromebook can lock the device and require a reset. Follow the official order if full deletion is actually the goal.
Preserve a route back during a replacement
Confirm the child can use the intended new device and that required data is present before retiring the old one. Do not depend on later restoration of a deleted account. Google also warns that deleting both the supervised account and its family group prevents restoration through that child-account process.
