Change the Primary Time Zone in Google Calendar on the Web

The primary time zone in Google Calendar controls the main local-time context used to display your schedule. Change it deliberately when your working location changes. It is different from changing the source time zone of one event or editing every appointment’s clock time.

Open the primary zone setting

On a computer, choose Settings > Settings. Under General, open Time zone and select Primary time zone. Search for the appropriate city or country and choose the intended zone.

Keep event data separate

Review the event’s own date and zone before moving any appointment manually. A meeting shown at another local clock time after a zone change may still represent the same instant. Editing its hour to match the old display can create a real scheduling error.

Google’s guidance also offers an option to ask about updating the primary zone to the current location. Use that preference according to your travel needs rather than assuming every trip should silently rewrite your display context.

Verify representative events

Inspect a known timed meeting, an all-day event, and an upcoming cross-region appointment. Check the date as well as the hour around midnight. Confirm essential arrangements with the organizer when the original source is ambiguous. Changing a display zone is not proof that another person’s calendar, a room booking, or an exported file uses the same local-time convention. Keep the confirmed appointment and its relevant source zone clear so collaborators can interpret their own local displays without guessing. Check the selected city carefully.
