An object animation controls how text, an image, or another Google Slides item appears during presentation. Use it when revealing content in stages helps the explanation. It is different from a slide transition, which affects the movement between slides rather than an individual item on the canvas.
Select the object
Open the presentation on a computer and click the text or image you want to animate. Confirm the selection so the effect does not apply to a neighboring object. Keep the intended reading order in mind before adding motion.
Add and configure the effect
Choose Insert > Animation, or open View > Motion. Under Object Animations, select the desired effect. Google’s guidance says a newly added object animation defaults to Appear (On click).
Review the start control and speed instead of accepting defaults blindly. The effect should support the pace of your explanation, not delay the audience’s access to information they already need.
Preview and rehearse
Use Play to preview the animation, then test it in the slideshow. Check which action reveals the object and whether the preceding text still makes sense before the reveal. Review the slide in the browser used for the talk because some effects may not function identically in every browser. If the content must also work as a static handout, ensure that the exported view communicates the complete point without depending on a timed reveal or a spoken correction of what appears on screen. Keep important source credits visible throughout any staged explanation of the evidence.
