Host Management concentrates Google Meet moderation controls in the hands of the host and appointed co-hosts. It is available across Google Workspace editions, although adding co-hosts has separate edition requirements. Check the meeting’s actual setting instead of relying on an assumption about the default.
Enable the setting inside the call
On a computer, join the intended meeting with the account that has hosting privileges. At the bottom right, open Host controls. In the side panel, turn on Host management. Inspect the panel again to confirm that the switch remains on. An ordinary participant cannot acquire hosting authority simply by opening the same meeting link.
Review the controls you intend to use
Host Management supports safety controls such as chat, presentation, microphone, and camera restrictions, along with ending the meeting for everyone. Enabling management is the prerequisite; it does not mean every individual restriction has already been enabled. Review each relevant setting before announcing a moderated discussion. Explain the participation method so attendees know whether to raise a hand or wait for a speaking turn.
Prepare before breakout rooms open
Google recommends enabling Host Management before using breakout rooms because the setting cannot be changed after those rooms are live. Arrange needed co-hosts in the main room first. Defaults can vary by edition and administrator policy, and settings can persist when a meeting code is reused. Recheck a recurring meeting rather than treating last week’s configuration as fresh evidence. A co-host can turn Host Management off, but only the main host can re-enable it for the other hosts. If the panel is unavailable, verify the account and role with the organizer before changing unrelated browser settings.
