Exiting a Google Slides slideshow returns you from presentation mode so you can edit or inspect the deck. This is different from merely blanking the audience screen or closing the whole browser. Use the normal exit control to avoid interrupting unrelated tabs or losing your place unnecessarily.
Leave slideshow mode
While presenting on a computer, press Esc. Google’s presenting guidance documents this as the way to exit full-screen presentation. Check the visible interface afterward so you know whether you have returned to the editor or another presentation-related window.
Confirm the editing context
Locate the intended slide and select the object or text you need to change. If Presenter View or another display is also open, confirm which window is active before typing. The editor’s own full-screen viewing option is a separate control that also changes visible menus and toolbars.
Make the necessary edit carefully. Avoid starting a new file or reopening the entire browser simply because the presentation view temporarily hides the editing controls.
Check what the audience sees
When screen sharing is active, exiting the slideshow can expose the editor, speaker notes, or another window depending on the sharing route. Verify the shared surface and pause sharing when appropriate before making a private correction. Re-enter the slideshow from the intended slide after the edit and confirm that the audience-facing content is correct. Exiting presentation mode does not revoke access to a shared deck, stop a published presentation, or remove copies that viewers have already received.
