Run Google Slides Animations at the Same Time

With previous timing lets Google Slides animations begin together. This can help a label and its diagram element appear as one meaningful unit. Use it when simultaneous appearance improves understanding, rather than adding motion to unrelated objects merely because the feature is available.

Review the related effects

Open the slide’s Motion panel on a computer. Identify the effect that should act as the reference and the additional object that should appear with it. Check the objects’ labels and positions before changing the timing.

Choose simultaneous timing

For the relevant animation, select With previous in the start options. Google’s guidance defines this as starting at the same time as the previous animation. This differs from After previous, which waits for the earlier effect to finish.

Review the effects’ speeds separately. Objects can start together yet finish at different times if their durations differ. Decide whether that variation helps the explanation or simply makes the reveal look inconsistent.

Test the visual grouping

Use Play and then rehearse the slide. Confirm that the paired label and object appear in a coherent relationship and that neither is briefly shown without essential context. Inspect the rest of the sequence for unintended simultaneous reveals. Test the browser used for delivery, and review the static version separately. Animation timing should reinforce the audience’s understanding of related content; it should not imply that two real-world events occur simultaneously unless the evidence and wording actually support that factual relationship. Compare the opening and completion of the paired effects during rehearsal.
