Choose a Supported Source for a Google Slides Video

Google Slides’ video insertion dialog offers specific sources rather than embedding any arbitrary web page as a playable video. Choose a supported route before redesigning a slide around an external clip. A website URL that opens a video page is not necessarily a supported video source for the Slides player.

Inspect the available sources

On a computer, choose Insert > Video. Google’s current help lists YouTube search, a URL option, and Google Drive. Use the route that matches the media you are authorized to present. Do not treat the URL field as a promise that every streaming website can be embedded.

Prepare the right file or reference

For an approved Drive video, confirm the file’s contents and permissions. For a Google Vids production, Google’s help describes exporting to Drive and inserting the exported video. For a website outside the supported workflow, consider a clearly labeled link rather than claiming an embedded player will work.

Check usage rights and audience suitability before converting or copying media. Technical insertion options do not grant permission to redistribute someone else’s content.

Test the chosen route

Run the slideshow in the intended browser and account context. Verify that the correct clip plays with usable sound and that its start behavior matches the talk. If the source is unsupported, retain a factual explanation or another authorized delivery method. Avoid installing an unknown add-on or weakening browser controls merely to imitate an embedding feature. The final presentation should accurately describe what the audience can open, play, or follow through a separate link.
