A shared filter changes the filtered view other users encounter. A filter view lets you analyze a different subset or ordering without imposing that view on everyone working in the file.
Create the view on a computer
Open the spreadsheet and choose Data > Create filter view. Set the desired sorting and filter conditions. Check the range so all intended records and their associated columns are included.
Use a descriptive name such as Open orders by due date. A name that explains the population makes the view easier to distinguish from an ordinary filter or another editor’s similar analysis.
Save or use a temporary view
Use the displayed Save View control and Save when you have the required editing access. To reopen a saved view, use Data > Change view and select it. Close the current view when finished.
Google allows viewers to create a temporary filter view, but that temporary view is not saved. Only one filter view is applied at a time. A temporary personal analysis does not grant permission to edit the underlying data.
Share the view without changing access
With the intended filter view applied, copy its URL to share that view. The recipient still needs access to the spreadsheet. A view link is not a separate confidential extract and does not hide the rest of the file from an authorized reader.
Verify the view with a known matching and nonmatching record. Keep sensitive information in appropriately restricted files instead of relying on a filter to conceal it. If the goal is to distribute only a limited dataset, use an authorized export or separately permissioned output rather than mistaking a convenient viewing configuration for an access boundary.
