Removing a Google Account from the Gmail app on an iPhone does not delete the Google Account or its server mailbox. It does affect access on that device, including other Google apps, so confirm the account and preserve unsent work first.
Check what you want to remove
Open Gmail and tap the profile picture to read the full address. Make sure you are not confusing a personal account with a similarly named work account. If you only want fewer alerts or a different inbox view, change those settings instead of removing access.
While connected, check Drafts and any pending sending state. Verify important mail in the account’s web mailbox or another signed-in device. A locally unsent item should not be treated as safely backed up just because other messages are visible.
Use Remove from this device
In Gmail, tap your profile picture, choose Manage accounts on this device, and select Remove from this device beside the intended address. Confirm only after reading the account shown in the prompt.
Google states that removing a Google Account through this process also signs you out of other Google apps on the device, such as Maps and YouTube. It is not the Google Account deletion process. To read the mailbox later, sign in again with the account’s normal authentication.
Check the result and separate other mail apps
Reopen the account menu and confirm that the address is gone. Check other Google apps if you expected them to remain signed in. Remember that an account configured separately in Apple Mail or another client may require its own removal.
If the phone is lost, use Google’s remote device-session controls instead of relying on a local action you cannot perform. For an employer-managed phone, follow the organization’s offboarding or device-return process. Never choose Delete your Google Account as a substitute for signing out of Gmail on one iPhone.
