Gmail on Android Shows Combined Mail From Several Accounts: Switch Out of All Inboxes

2026年10月29日 by wisechecker

If Gmail on Android mixes messages from several addresses, check whether you are viewing All inboxes. This is a combined view of the accounts added to the app. It does not merge their Google Accounts, transfer ownership of messages, or turn every folder into one shared mailbox.

Switch to the account you intended

  1. Open Gmail and tap your profile picture at the top right.
  2. Select the exact email address you want to inspect. Check the full address rather than relying only on a similar profile image or display name.
  3. Open that account’s Inbox from the menu and compare the message list with All inboxes.

All inboxes is useful when you want an overview of incoming mail. A single-account Inbox is clearer when checking which address received a message, diagnosing delivery, or handling work and personal correspondence separately. Search and folder views should also be interpreted in the account context shown by the app.

Confirm the owner before replying or moving mail

Open a harmless example and inspect its recipient details. When composing, check the From address before sending. A unified reading view does not justify assuming that a new message will use your preferred business identity.

A non-Google address added to the Gmail app remains an account at its own provider. Its messages do not automatically appear when you sign in to a different Google Account at Gmail on the web. Compare it with the correct provider’s webmail when troubleshooting.

Change the view instead of deleting an account

You do not need to remove an account or delete messages to stop using All inboxes. Switching the view preserves the existing account connections. Deleting a message can affect its actual mailbox and other synchronized clients; it is not a way to hide another account from the combined list.

If Android has a separate work-profile Gmail app, identify the profile as well as the address. Its organization-managed boundaries are separate from the ordinary account switcher. Keep those boundaries intact and ask the administrator about an unexpected work-account view.
