A failed Gmail Send as verification can concern address ownership, the confirmation mailbox, authentication, or an unsupported account arrangement. Identify the address type first. Adding an alias, linking another Google account, and configuring a non-Google sending service are not identical tasks.
Check ownership and confirmation delivery
- Inspect the exact address entered in Send mail as.
- Open the mailbox or approved alias destination that should receive the confirmation.
- Search Spam and other relevant locations.
- Ask the administrator to confirm a managed alias or group arrangement.
Do not request access to someone else’s account or broaden a group’s public posting permissions as a shortcut. A verification message establishes a specific authorization step, not a general right to impersonate the organization.
Inspect the actual authentication error
If the setup requests a server connection, use the provider’s current secure settings and supported sign-in method. An invalid credential, a TLS failure, and a connection timeout need different investigations.
Modern Google sign-in is preferred for supported clients. App passwords have eligibility conditions and are not a reason to disable 2-Step Verification or Advanced Protection. Do not send passwords or live verification links to public support threads.
Check whether the proposed setup remains supported
Google’s current notice schedules the end of third-party Send as support starting January 2027, with other Gmail addresses and Workspace aliases excluded. A non-Google provider’s future sending workflow should be planned around a supported alternative rather than repeated attempts at a retiring feature.
Where a verified address genuinely needs re-verification, follow the current account interface and official instructions after preserving its existing defaults and reply settings. Removing and adding an address can affect compositions that rely on it.
Use a harmless test after verification, checking From and Reply-to at the recipient. Do not mistake a successful confirmation click for completed sending configuration. If the address belongs to a managed organization, involve the administrator with the exact error and account type rather than trying unrelated ports or weakening security.
