If new Gmail mail appears on the web but not on one phone or tablet, delivery to the account is working. Focus on the affected device’s account, view, connection, and synchronization. A missing alert is also different from a message missing inside the app.
Compare the same account and message
- Open the known new message in Gmail on the web.
- Confirm that the app uses the same account address.
- Search the app for the sender or subject, checking other categories and labels.
- Refresh the inbox and allow synchronization to finish.
If the message exists in the app but no alert appeared, inspect notification and device focus settings separately. Do not treat that as a server-side receiving failure.
Use low-risk device checks first
Confirm connectivity, update Gmail through the official app store, and restart the device if appropriate. On Android, Google’s guidance includes Gmail menu, Settings, the selected account, then checking Sync Gmail under Data usage. Device-level synchronization controls vary by manufacturer.
Check available device storage as well as Google Account storage; they are different limits. Google’s Android guidance notes that synchronization can take time, especially after a device has been unused. Do not assume every refresh must complete instantly.
Preserve local work before deeper repair
Review Drafts and Outbox before signing out, removing the account, or resetting app storage. Google’s Android instructions reserve clearing Gmail storage for cases where earlier steps fail and warn that it can erase drafts and other local settings.
Do not apply Android menu paths to iPhone or iPad. Use the current platform-specific guidance or your organization’s device support when further steps are needed.
If the app contains another provider’s mailbox, compare that provider’s webmail too; Gmail app branding does not mean every account uses Google’s mail servers. Record the account type, device, app version, and one example timestamp for support. Keep the functioning web access available while isolating the device problem instead of disrupting every synchronized client.
