If Gmail receives mail from some people but not others, a total account outage is less likely than a sender-specific, routing, or filtering problem. Compare one successful message with one missing example, keeping the recipient address and approximate time explicit.
Check whether the missing message arrived elsewhere
Search the web mailbox by the sender’s actual address and a distinctive phrase. Include Spam and Trash when appropriate. Inspect category tabs, archive, and labels rather than checking only Primary.
Review Filters and blocked addresses for the missing sender. A block routes future mail to Spam, while a filter can archive or delete it. A message found in either location requires a different fix from mail that the server never accepted.
Compare the sender’s delivery evidence
- Ask the sender to confirm the exact destination address.
- Request the sending time and any bounce or rejection text, shared privately.
- Check whether the sender changed its address, delivery service, or domain recently.
- For managed mail, involve the relevant administrator with a specific example.
An authentication or policy rejection is often a sender-side configuration issue. Gmail’s Never send it to Spam filter cannot create a message that was rejected before it appeared in the mailbox.
Correct only the demonstrated cause
Unblock an accidentally blocked trusted address, adjust a wrongly matching rule, or ask the sender’s administrator to repair authentication as the evidence indicates. For mail already in Spam, read its warning and verify the sender independently before using Not spam.
Do not whitelist an entire domain or disable protections simply because one sender is important. An organization can send both essential notices and marketing through several different services.
After the correction, use one harmless new message from the affected sender and verify the result in the web mailbox. If the message appears there but not on one device, continue with that device’s sync problem separately. Preserve the successful and failed examples so support can compare like with like rather than relying on a vague report that some email works.
