Gmail Confidential Mode Passcode Does Not Arrive: Check How It Was Sent

2026年10月28日 by wisechecker

A Gmail confidential-mode passcode can arrive by email or SMS, depending on the sender’s settings and the recipient’s mail client. First identify which method applies. A missing text message is not necessarily an SMS failure if the message was configured to use an emailed code.

Check what the message requires

With No SMS passcode, recipients using Gmail can open the protected email directly. Recipients using another email client follow View the email and receive the passcode by email. With SMS passcode, recipients request the code and receive a text message on the phone number specified for access.

Use the Send passcode control in the legitimate confidential-message view. For an emailed code, check the intended inbox and its spam folder. For SMS, check the recipient phone’s ordinary message reception and whether messages are being filtered.

Have the sender verify the number and region

The sender must enter the recipient’s phone number, not the sender’s own number. If the number is wrong, ask the sender to correct the arrangement and resend as appropriate. Do not ask the unintended number’s owner to relay a code.

Google currently lists SMS support for phone numbers in North America, South America, Europe, and Australia, plus India, Korea, and Japan in Asia. That list does not mean every country worldwide is supported. A supported region also does not guarantee immediate delivery by a particular carrier.

Keep the access problem separate from account recovery

This code opens a particular confidential message. It is not a Google Account recovery code or a request to disable two-step verification. Do not supply your password, recovery code, or unrelated authentication code to the sender.

Confirm that the message has not expired and that the sender has not removed access. Repeated code requests will not restore a revoked message. If delivery remains unavailable, ask the sender to use an approved alternative that meets the information’s sensitivity requirements.

Report the selected code route, affected recipient address, supported-region check, and exact error through a trusted channel. Avoid including the message’s private content or a live passcode in a support screenshot.
